DROPPING STITCHES

They came
Your friends
As unexpected
As your loss
Or the way
Your too young
Heart began
To slow
Drifting finally
To a stop

Your mother
Stood by me
Pleased I’d
Worn your
Letter sweater
She plucked
At the plum
Stitches unravelling
Round the sleeve
Yarn too old
To stay
The course

The grave-keeper
Leaned on his
Shovel
Out of the wind
Waiting.

  1. Another funeral poem - you and Pearl have both brought out the sadness hidden in this wordle. Well written.

  2. oh I love that last stanza - it's like the poem spins and comes back to that - the way you've phrased this was very clever too - the short lines - it built the pace and gave it this breathless type feel which I found perfectly suited the content! great write!!

  3. I like windows like this. Rich enough that I can make up the rest of the story, but satisfying as it stands. Thanks
