CAUGHT WITHOUT A NET

You think life's a cakewalk
A simple thing, a free ride
Until your come-uppance
The first time you find yourself

Caught fast in a snare
So quickly you become unbalanced
Forget to keep your wings spread
Feel the teeth slap together

So hard around your ankle
Your whole body gasps
Turns blue -a sapphire hue
Your blood flakes to dust

In that instant as you try
To remember any and every
Blessed prayer you ever knew
Before starting

To chew your foot
Clear through
Anything
Just to get free

  1. dang....vivid...but in the end...if that is what freedom takes...is it not worth it?

  2. Freedom ALWAYS comes at a price, doesn't it? Your viewpoint is eye opening and grips the soul. Of all my favorites, you're one of them! (A great Yogi Berra if I ever heard one! ;) ) Seriously, Sharon, I'm loving it.

  4. Strong images, and I love the title. It makes me think.

  5. Stunning. The best word I can think of is "visceral." Sharon, the sudden shock of becoming ensnared, and then the possibility of a James Franco in "127 Hours"? Oy. Hard to read but BRILL.

Thx also for stopping by and commenting so often. Your comments are cogent and welcome. Peace, honey, Amy
