(after Wislawa Szymborska's "Possibilities")
I
like wolves
I
like birch trees
I
like the cliffs that climb up from Lake Ontario
I
like Verdi more than I do Wagner
I
like needing people from a remote, safe distance
I
like the scenes in a movie that haunt me
I
like to think there might be a god, maybe even more than one
I
like finding pools of kindness in unexpected acts of cruelty
I
like a rollicking storm
I
like to think my lifeless body won't just become litter
I
like to think the price of illumination is living
I love this, Sharon. There is such balance here, and beauty.
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE a rollicking storm. :)
I like any poem written by you! But that's just the way I am! Nicely done, Sharon!
ReplyDeleteLove how you begin each line with "I like", because those are some wonderful things to like, Sharon.
ReplyDeletePamela
I love this poem. Makes me want to do a list poem.
ReplyDeleteThis poem strikes right to my core; so much that I recognise in myself. A truly wonderful write. *smile*
ReplyDeletePeople from a remote, safe distance suit me just fine too! ;)
ReplyDeleteA Singular Whirl
Exactly Sabra...it was Szymborska's list poem that inspired me (even tho mine's only a "mini" compared to his and I may revise mine someday to make it longer...)...thanks all for coming, reading, and especially, for commenting...
